Boyd K Packard - quorm of the twelve - responsibility of parenthool
* No pain will ever last forever
*Life was never meant to be easy or fair, the forgiveness that repentance brings will always be worth the effort
*Family time is sacred time and should be protected and respected
Cheryl A Esplin - primary general presidency - understanding the doctrine of the gospel
*Notice that the lord does not just say for us to teach the doctrine, his instructions are to teach our children to understand the doctrine
Hallstrom - of the seventy - activity in the gospel and the difference of the church and gospel
*It is possible to be active in the church and less active in the gospel
*Establish the discipline to live faithful to our covenants, fully using the weekly gift of the sacrament
*The lord wants the members of HIS church to be fully converted to HIS gospel
Paul E. Kolliker - of the seventy - becoming disciples of Christ
I like the story of the missionaries knocking on the door of a hard hearted man and being threatened. As the elders walked away the older missionary put his arms around the shoulder of the younger missionary. The man saw it from his window and that small act of kindness softened his heart and he invited the missionaries in. What small acts of kindness can I do that can soften someones heart?
*How we think, speak and act is fundamental in becoming disciples of Christ and teachers of his gospel
*Love of God is the root of all virtue, of all goodness, of all strength of character, of all fidelity to do right
*The feeling of love from our Heavenly Father is like a gravitational pull from heaven. As we move the distractions that pull us towards the world and exercise our agency to seek him, we open our hearts to celestial force that draws us to Him.
Dallin H Oaks - quorm of the twelve - sacrifices made on the gospels' behalf
This talk made me feel so blessed to be part of this church. The unmeasurable sacrifices that happen within this church is a witness to me that this is the true and living gospel. I am grateful that I have been taught to live strong and partake of the blessing that this church provides to me.
*As you sacrifice for yourselves and your children the lord will bless you.
Henry B Eyring - quorm of the twelve - Trials, Faith and enduring to the end
**If the foundation of faith is not embedded in our hearts the power to endure will crumble.
*I like the story he told about digging and making forms for concrete foundations. It was a slow process as they did not have machines to dig, they used a pick and a shovel. They had to pour the concrete and wait, they replace the wood forms with metal forms and wait. He likened it to our lives that learning and building our foundation in faith is a process and cannot be rushed. It takes time and efforts.
*There is someone you can forgive, there is someone you can thank, there is someone you serve and lift. You can do it where ever you are and however alone and deserted you may feel.
*One of the characteristics of trials in life is that they seem to make clocks slow down and then appear almost to stop. Understanding the reason for this may not give much comfort but it may give you a feeling of patience.
*If we have faith in Jesus Christ the hardest, as well as the easiest of times can be a blessing
*We never need feel that we are alone or unloved in the Lords service because we never are.
*The savior has promised us angels at our left and at our right to bear us up and he ALWAYS keeps his word.
I really enjoyed these talks. I had the sliding door open and I had the TV up quite loud, it was even on surround sound so it is all I hear. When Jett fell asleep about 25 minutes in, I thought well I can turn it down now so everyone outside doesn't have to hear it. There are all kinds of people in and out today but then I thought. NOPE, I want to hear EVERY word. And I'm ok if my neighbors hear it too. I am glad that the spirit penetrated my heart and filled my apartment. It's only the first session and I feel so renewed and refreshed.
