General Conference Saturday Afternoon Session Spring 2012

Jeffrey R Holland - quorum of the twelve - envy/jealousy/forgiveness
He told a story of some labors that all came to work at different times and worked everywhere from all day to just a few hours. When it was time to get paid, everyone got paid the same amount. His talk went on to dicuss that we can't be mad at the man that paid them for being kind. Don't be mad at what happened at nine when you are being rewarded at 6.
*So be kind, and be grateful that God is kind
*It is not possible for you to sink lower than the infinite light that Christ's atonement shines

Robert D Hales - quorum of the twelve - living the commandments
*Whether we are young or old what we do today determines the service we are able to render and enjoy tomorrow
*This talk made me want to be just that much better each day, to try just a little harder
*Elder Hales challenged us to to have a talk with ourselves, follow our spiritual desires. Ask ourselves if we worthily partake of the sacrament and hold a temple recommend.

David S Baxter - quorum of the seventy - single moms
*While you cannot change the past, you can shape the future
**With God's help you need not fear for the future, your children will grow up and call you blessed, and every single one of their many achievements will stand as a tribute to you.
*In the kingdom of God there is no second class citizens
*Your perspective and view of life will change when rather than being cast down, you look up...that when you live to lift the burdens of others your own burdens become lighter. Although your circumstances have not changed your attitude has. You are able to face your own trials with greater acceptance and more understanding heart and a deeper gratitude of what you have rather than pining for what you yet lack.

Ulisses Soares - quorum of the seventy - Staying on the straight and narrow
*Promises made by the Lord to us are conditional upon our obedience and encourage righteous living
*Do my actions place me in the Lords or the tempters territory

Quinton L Cook - quorum of the twelve - Being in tune with the spirit
*When one is tone deaf to the music of faith, they are out of tune with the spirit
*Have the courage to refrain from judging people
*Family is the most important unit now, in time and eternity
**What we are speaks so loudly that our children may not hear what we say

Richard G Scott - quorum of the twelve - spirit of revelation
I didn't get to write anything down for his talk because I was rocking Jett to sleep. SO...what stuck out to me was that he stressed for us to be quiet and calm so you can recieve the spirit of revelation.

General Conference Saturday Morning session April 2012

Since this is my journal and at the end of the year I willl be printing it off, I thought I would write down the things that stood out to me in the talks given during conference. Jett just went down for a nap and I am really getting to listen. I have so enjoyed the words that I have already heard.

Boyd K Packard - quorm of the twelve - responsibility of parenthool
* No pain will ever last forever
*Life was never meant to be easy or fair, the forgiveness that repentance brings will always be worth the effort
*Family time is sacred time and should be protected and respected

Cheryl A Esplin - primary general presidency - understanding the doctrine of the gospel
*Notice that the lord does not just say for us to teach the doctrine, his instructions are to teach our children to understand the doctrine

Hallstrom - of the seventy - activity in the gospel and the difference of the church and gospel
*It is possible to be active in the church and less active in the gospel
*Establish the discipline to live faithful to our covenants, fully using the weekly gift of the sacrament
*The lord wants the members of HIS church to be fully converted to HIS gospel

Paul E. Kolliker - of the seventy - becoming disciples of Christ
I like the story of the missionaries knocking on the door of a hard hearted man and being threatened. As the elders walked away the older missionary put his arms around the shoulder of the younger missionary. The man saw it from his window and that small act of kindness softened his heart and he invited the missionaries in. What small acts of kindness can I do that can soften someones heart?
*How we think, speak and act is fundamental in becoming disciples of Christ and teachers of his gospel
*Love of God is the root of all virtue, of all goodness, of all strength of character, of all fidelity to do right
*The feeling of love from our Heavenly Father is like a gravitational pull from heaven. As we move the distractions that pull us towards the world and exercise our agency to seek him, we open our hearts to celestial force that draws us to Him.

Dallin H Oaks - quorm of the twelve - sacrifices made on the gospels' behalf
This talk made me feel so blessed to be part of this church. The unmeasurable sacrifices that happen within this church is a witness to me that this is the true and living gospel. I am grateful that I have been taught to live strong and partake of the blessing that this church provides to me.
*As you sacrifice for yourselves and your children the lord will bless you.

Henry B Eyring - quorm of the twelve - Trials, Faith and enduring to the end
**If the foundation of faith is not embedded in our hearts the power to endure will crumble.
*I like the story he told about digging and making forms for concrete foundations. It was a slow process as they did not have machines to dig, they used a pick and a shovel. They had to pour the concrete and wait, they replace the wood forms with metal forms and wait. He likened it to our lives that learning and building our foundation in faith is a process and cannot be rushed. It takes time and efforts.
*There is someone you can forgive, there is someone you can thank, there is someone you serve and lift. You can do it where ever you are and however alone and deserted you may feel.
*One of the characteristics of trials in life is that they seem to make clocks slow down and then appear almost to stop. Understanding the reason for this may not give much comfort but it may give you a feeling of patience.
*If we have faith in Jesus Christ the hardest, as well as the easiest of times can be a blessing
*We never need feel that we are alone or unloved in the Lords service because we never are.
*The savior has promised us angels at our left and at our right to bear us up and he ALWAYS keeps his word.

I really enjoyed these talks. I had the sliding door open and I had the TV up quite loud, it was even on surround sound so it is all I hear. When Jett fell asleep about 25 minutes in, I thought well I can turn it down now so everyone outside doesn't have to hear it. There are all kinds of people in and out today but then I thought. NOPE, I want to hear EVERY word. And I'm ok if my neighbors hear it too. I am glad that the spirit penetrated my heart and filled my apartment. It's only the first session and I feel so renewed and refreshed.

There Is A First Time For Everything....Dang It

Justin and I were talking the other day with how lucky we have been that Jett hasn't ever been sick besides the typical teething fever and runny nose. Well we shouldn't have ever said that out loud! In the middle of the night this past week I woke up to a weird sound, I listened closely and woke Justin up and we figured out that it was Jett coughing. We thought nothing of it because he wasn't sick or even acting sick the day before. He went back to sleep and woke up a few hours later with the sweetest raspiest cough, voice I had ever heard. Thursday was so hard to be at class knowing he had a cough. When I went to pick him up he was acting fine and we thought he just had a little cough. I made a Dr. appt. for the next morning with Dr. Ethridge. Right before bedtime we saw that he had a little bit of a runny nose. We prepared for a slow weekend, realizing he might have a little cold. Friday morning he woke up at 2;00 fussy, we tried to wait it out but when we took his temp it was 104.8. We were walking through the doors of the Emergency Room ten minutes later. They took him in and started all the Dr. stuff that they do. They wanted to put and IV in his arm and I'm not sure if that was worse for Jett or for me. I cried as I had to hold my sweet boy down. Justin had ran back home to get his diaper bag because we had forgotten it. They had the needle in his arm and could not find the vein so after a minute of so of searching they gave up and Justin was back to hold him down for the other arm. They found the vein and put his arm in a little splint so he would bend it. They took two X-rays and some blood and let Jett sleep while we waited. An hour or so later they came in to tell us that he had RSV. That is a scary word around my little brain. So we have just been laying around trying to beat this and being really lazy. Even though we love those sweet cuddles and tender moments as he lays in our arms, we just are so sad that he is sick. We take for granted health and I am so grateful for how happy and healthy he is a normal day. In between his medicines and naps he is happy and tries to carry on as normal. Here are some pics.....

FOLLOW UP

Jett got these three weeks ago. (the week before midterms. HA perfect timing right?!)

Park Days

Have we told you how much Jett loves balls? He bounces and gets this huge smile on is face and goes nuts when he see them.

Sunday we decided to take advantage of the nice weather so we went down to the park after our nap, we took a blanket and a few balls and let Jett crawl around. He loved it.

At the spring training game last week, the grass did not bother him at all. BUT this grass at the park did bother him...bad. He would NOT go off the blanket. He would crawl to the end and get his fingers just to the edge and stop and back up. It was halarious! We sure love that Jett boy of ours.

Phone Pictures

In my efforts to organize and back up my pictures this last week I got the pictures off Justin and I's phone from the last year. It was fun to look through them all....

Hudini

Jett does pretty good in his carseat most days. Lately I have had to strap him in extra tight because he can get his arms out of his straps. Today I had to go to the school from Justin's work. It is literally less than a mile. SO...being the awful mom that I am I just buckled the chest snap not the two between his legs. And once I got going Hudini got to work.

So It Begins....

I was doing my flashcards while Jett was busily crawling around. I had an ahhhh moment when it was quiet. I wasn't doing my flashcards over my head so little Jett couldn't reach them. He wasn't burying his head in my legs crying wanting me to pick him up. I wasn't all panicy cuz I only had so much time to study while he slept. It was just good, he finally was entertaining himself and letting me get my studying done. It felt so good, I felt like we were a team. THEN....an hour or so later I walk down the hall and out of the corner of my eye I see this.....
So here is to me learning to close doors and be a little more concerned by silence rather than relieved! Because my friends...IT HAS BEGUN!

Spring Break '12

We took a short little trip to the valley for our spring break. We wanted to take Jett to a Diamondbacks Spring Training game. So Friday Jett and I did all our chores around the house so we could leave Saturday when Justin got off work. We stayed with Geoff, Shauna and the kids. Jett loves all the attention (as if he doesn't get it here;) Sunday we went to our old ward, it was good to see everyone and it was fun to show Jett off. He was 3 months when we moved, so he had changed alot. Monday was the big day! We left early got a burrito at our favorite Rudy's Burritos and stopped at Bass Pro Shop. Jett loved all the fish, they would get close to him and he would tense up and squeal!!!! Then we went to the game, we got there early and enjoyed the weather before the game started. It was so good to see all our favorite players take the field! It got hot the first few innings and then it got a little overcast and it was beautiful! It wasn't to busy, I was in heaven on the blanket with my boys!
